Buy Local to help the town
Saturday, March 20, 2010
A call has gone out to help local shop owners by taking up the challenge to 'Buy Local'.
Keighley Town Centre Association is asking people to support their local businesses. This follows the first year of its Love Keighley campaign which has seen events in the town and merchandise including bags, t-shirts and other items given away to local people as well as visitors from as far away as America, Australia and Pakistan.
Town Centre Manager Philip Smith said
" So far we have been letting people know what a lot there is to see and do in Keighley. Now we want more people to come to town to use our local businesses.
Keighley has something for everyone from nationally recognised names in the Airedale Shopping Centre to independant traders on Cavendish Street, in the nearbyCavendish Court and the Victorian Royal Arcade.
In the current climate shop keepers need the support of the local community. If everyone spent £5 per week it would see £13 million go into the local economy each year".
To coincide with the anniversary of the Love Keighley campaign a competition was run in the Keighley News and Thank You cards are being handed to customers across town for supporting Keighley.
