Holmewood Keighley working with local school children
Friday, July 29, 2011
Holmewood Resource Centre Keighley has been working with children from Nessfield Primary School Keighley on a weekly gardening project over the summer term.
The children have been busy working every Thursday to create flower baskets to hang around the Centre which are looking absolutely lovely!
They have also been working with residents on the vegetable patch by sowing seeds and planting out the seedlings. The children have taken potatoes and strawberries back to school for the class to eat.
The project has been very successful with the children working in a very positive way with the elderly residents who have enjoyed the visits immensly
They have also made a mask for our scarecrow with Stuart Eldon who is a care assistant in the day centre.
Stuart has been involved with our vegetable garden project from the beginning and has worked very hard to develop this. He has also involved the children in writing poems around the project to support their literacy work at school.
Steve Seymour Manager of the Airedale Shopping Centre and member of the Keighley in Bloom committee commented that it was great to see different generations interacting so well together and hoped that this would be an annual event.
