Keighley's Big 10K
Monday, February 22, 2010
Keighley is gearing up for its third annual BIGK 10K. Entries are now open for this year’s event being held on Mothering Sunday, March 14.
Last year there were more than 600 starters and organisers hope the 2010 field will exceed that.
More than £18,000 was raised for Manorlands, the Oxenhope Sue Ryder Care hospice.
Entrants follow a multi-terrain route linking the four major parks in Keighley. All mums taking part will receive a carnation as they cross the finishing line.
A timing system is being introduced that will see each runner wear a tag, containing a microchip, attached to their footwear. This will accurately record the person’s time and help organisers deal with the growing numbers taking part.
But Andrew Wood, of Manorlands, stressed that the increased professionalism did not mean people of all abilities were not welcome.
“The Keighley BIGK 10K is a challenging event for everyone to enjoy whether they are world class or walkers — everyone can take it at their own pace and it has a great community feel,” he said.
